Tips for Demolition

When it comes to renovating your home, demolition, or “demo”, is an important part of the project. Before you install anything new, you need to remove all the old materials. Demolition can be frustrating and if not done right can cause you to have to pause your whole project. Here are some tips to make sure you get to the renovation part of your project:

  • Create time to dedicate to strictly demolition and your home. Don’t try to cram 6 hours of demolition and renovation into the same day. Once the demolition is completed, you’ll want some peace and quiet before the next step of your project.
  • If there is an area of your home that is not being affected by demolition, close off that area. Plaster and drywall dust will make its way into any rooms that aren’t closed off. You can seal rooms with sheet plastic and tape to protect them.
  • Store any belongings from the room receiving the demolition in a storage container to prevent any damage.
  • Before any permanent moves are made, determine what is behind the wall you’re swinging into. Not knowing what you’re getting into could lead to some pretty serious issues.
